Does your computer give you aches and pains?

Computer users often suffer from aches and pains in the fingers, arms, neck, eyes, etc. arising from repetitive keyboard and screen use.

These repetitive strain injuries (RSI) build up over time and can ultimately prevent use of the computer altogether.

Any such symptoms can generally be reduced (or avoided altogether) by regularly performing a few simple exercises.

For example, regularly spending a few seconds to stretch fingers and neck, refocusing the eyes, adjusting seating/viewing positions, etc. can significantly reduce the likelihood of associated strains.

While this seems like common sense, in practice, most computer users forget or disregard this advice.

Ache Saver is a simple software application designed to instruct and schedule users in to regular exercise patterns.

How it works

Ache Saver works by scheduling a period of exercise (e.g. for a duration of 30 seconds) on a regular basis (e.g. every 15 minutes).

During the 'exercise period', Ache Saver takes over the computer screen and displays some exercise instructions.

While these instructions are displayed, the user is temporarily prevented from continuing their current activity (e.g. word processing, etc.) and encouraged to perform the exercise.

If the user urgently needs to resume their current work, the exercise period can be overridden (subject to configuration settings).

When the exercise period finishes, Ache Saver automatically returns control to the previous application.

Ache Saver allows each user to configure their personal settings for:-

  • Duration of their exercise period (e.g. How long they exercise for)
  • Regularity of their exercise periods (i.e. How often they exercise)
  • Override (i.e. whether or not they are able to cancel the exercise period)
